Puppy Welfare at Paws in Work

Puppy welfare at Paws in Work is, and will always be, at the heart of the business. Every puppy that joins our socialisation programme or participates in our puppy therapy events comes from ethical, reputable breeder partners. These breeders are just as committed as we are to responsible breeding and the vital role of early puppy socialisation.

We even have a dedicated 'Puppy Welfare' team whose sole job is to make sure that puppy welfare always comes first. So when you attend a Paws in Work puppy therapy event, you can relax and enjoy the cuteness, knowing that these little ones are in the best hands.

Our licensing and insurance

We're proud to be the UK's first and only fully licensed puppy therapy specialists. Our licence means we have been thoroughly vetted and inspected by a government body and adhere to strict guidelines across a range of animal welfare laws and regulations.

On top of that, we carry the highest level of insurance coverage, including Public Liability, Transport insurance, and comprehensive coverage for our puppies. This way, you can rest easy knowing the puppies are protected from the moment we pick them up until well after they graduate from our programme.

Ethical Breeding

A question we often get is, "Where do the puppies come from?" Well, first things first—we don't own the puppies, and we're not involved in breeding or selling them. Instead, we team up with ethical and reputable breeders who are just as passionate about responsible breeding and early socialisation as we are.

The pups you see at our events are almost ready to head to their forever homes. We like to think of ourselves as a fun puppy daycare with the added bonus of socialisation! We pick them up from our breeder partners in the morning in our special custom-made puppy vehicle and bring them back in the afternoon after a day packed with fun and learning.

Puppy Socialisation

Puppies pick up a ton of important life skills between 3 to 16 weeks old—this period is all about 'socialisation'. Our sessions are all about giving pups as young as 8 weeks the chance to interact with different people and environments, which is super important for them to grow into happy, healthy dogs.

At Paws in Work, we create a safe and fun space where each litter gets to meet around 81 people every day, helping them build crucial social skills. Getting handled by different people helps them get used to things like vet visits and grooming, which can be a bit scary for some pups (and even older dogs).

We also introduce them to a variety of textures, sounds, and smells. They'll walk on surfaces like artificial grass, play with sensory toys, and hear typical office noises like city traffic and fire alarms. This is to prepare them for the unpredictability of everyday life! Our trained staff are always on hand to make sure these experiences are positive, helping the puppies smoothly transition to their forever homes and boosting their confidence for the future.

Our puppy welfare team

At Paws in Work, we're all about keeping our puppies happy and healthy. We've got a dedicated team that focuses on every single litter we work with, making sure they're in top shape. We work closely with ethical breeders to ensure the best care and socialisation for the pups. Before we partner with any new breeder, our team conducts thorough welfare checks, including initial video chats and home visits, to make sure everything's up to our high standards.

But it’s not just our Puppy Welfare team looking out for the puppies. All of our staff are trained in Pet First Aid and have at least a Level 2 qualification in Principles of Puppy Socialisation, along with other animal-related credentials. This training helps us keep a close watch on the puppies and ensures they have a great experience. You can trust that our puppies are always in good hands, with their wellbeing being our top priority.

Creating a safe and fun environment

Making sure both the puppies and our attendees have a safe and fun experience at Paws in Work takes a lot of teamwork! From the moment a bitch is pregnant (sometimes even before that), to when the pups are at our events from 8 weeks old, all the way until they settle into their new forever homes, we're on it. Every step of the way, we focus on their safety and development, making sure everything goes smoothly and the puppies are well taken care of.

Travel

Our puppies not only travel to events in style but, most importantly, safely! They ride in our specially adapted vehicles, which are decked out with A/C units, heating systems, and calming blue lights in their crates. Plus, there's always a Paws in Work staff member in the back, keeping an eye on them and making sure they're comfortable and happy throughout the journey.

A safe set up

Our setup at puppy therapy events is all about keeping the pups safe and comfy. We create a cosy 'summer garden' vibe in a private room, away from the hustle and bustle of offices. The pups even get their own chill-out spots between sessions, which we like to call their VIP area—because they're definitely 'very important puppies!'

We roll out sanitised artificial grass for each event, attendees join in by taking off shoes and lanyards, using antibacterial gel, and cover their clothes with fresh blankets. We use veterinary-approved sanitiser to eliminate any viruses and prevent cross-contamination between litters. Our dedicated operations team makes sure everything stays super clean and runs smoothly, keeping our pups safe and happy throughout the event.
